The Ramsgate Butterfly Valley
Mvutshini Valley(Place of the hippo)
“Butterflies have no boundaries and are free to go anywhere they please – Wherever there may be a host plant – eventually there will be the butterfly – who’s host plant it is”. Dr. DA Swanepoel 1969

Land Owners of Mvutshini Valley
Many of the landowners are well aware of the work that is being done in the valley to preserve the valley for the prosperity of its indigenous heritage. For this purpose, they have agreed that a 20 metre section along either side of the river’s edge be considered a natural reserve. Although they will still own the land, they have agreed to place this area under the control and protection of Conservation of Butterflies. We have taken on the responsibility of removing all alien plants in this area.
